In the position of Employability Support, your duties will involve writing CVs, providing assistance, sharing knowledge, conducting and guiding mock interviews, as well as mentoring and enhancing skills.
Key Tasks
Key tasks include supporting with CVs, improving online presence, and boosting the job prospects of participants through information, advice and knowledge. You will lead face-to-face mock interviews, guide participants in crafting compelling applications, and enhance their understanding of employer expectations. Work on refining written skills, including cover letters and personal statements. You will act as a mentor to provide support in improving both numeracy skills and overall confidence. Additionally, address language challenges for participants whose first language is not English. Also, you will identify and emphasise transferable skills and assist participants in gaining clarity on their desired job roles.

What are we asking for?
- You must have good interpersonal and communication skills.
- Confidence in providing support remotely.
- The ability to use or learn to use Webex or similar.
- Patience, and excellent listening skills, as these will enable you to effectively engage with individuals seeking support.
- Strong literacy and numeracy skills are important to provide comprehensive assistance to job seekers.
- Basic IT and digital skills are also a required, including proficiency in email, internet usage, and word processing, with the ability to format Word documents.
- You should be professional and have the confidence to work independently when necessary.
- A willingness to collaborate with Shaw Trust staff is crucial.
- Prior experience working with or supporting individuals facing various disadvantages, such as health issues, disabilities, or limited employability skills, is highly valued in this role.
Volunteer hours
Four hours between 9am and 5pm between Monday and Friday.
